Cyber Monday Starts Today

According to ComScore, a retail sales analysis organization, overall for the coming 2008 holiday, Christmas sales will be only slightly more than 2007 purchases. The shoppers who have money are holding on to it and the other shoppers just do not have as much to spend this year. They reported, during the black friday weekend, which closed November 30, 36 percent of shoppers purchased consumer electronics. Slightly over half of shoppers bought clothing and accessories, and 39 percent bought books, DVDs, CDs, and video games.

That places consumer electronics, DVDs, Cds, video games, and books at the top of the what shoppers are buying categories. A 2.2 percent increase or $471B in 2008 Christmas sales is all that is expected. Cyber Monday, which starts today will be closely monitored to see if the current purchasing trend continues. Cyber Monday is the online equivalent to black friday. It is the first Monday following Thanksgiving when everyone returns to work. The traditional kick-off to the online holiday shopping season because purchases from the workplace account for approximately half of all e-commerce spending.

WII + WII FIT, Wireless Headphone, and Wii Music were particularly popular sales item on eBay and Amazon.com during black friday sales.
